5 Simple Actionable Steps To Do Keyword Research

When it comes to SEO it all about trust, you can only build this trust by genuinely helping people and constantly giving out great informational material through your website.

Over time this trust will translate into sales. Ranking is often a topic that sparks debate especially with internet marketers. There is no one sure way of getting higher ranking search results over night.

As I mentioned in my article SEO 101: Content Is Everything  building an audience takes time, hard work, dedication for you to be considered an “Authority” in your niche.

Content marketing is just one of the many SEO strategy that can assure you results another promising strategy is Keyword Research.

Search terms actually make up less than 30% of the searches performed on the web.

 The remaining 70% lie in what they call the “long tail” of searches.

This simply means majority of searches come from unique searches, this searches generally convert better than popular search terms. You need to target this search terms that are unique to your brand, location or target audience.

So here’s how you can start targeting this specific search terms and be assured of maximum results.

Choose a Keyword Research Resource Tool

I personally use the Google Adwords Keyword Planner Tool. We obviously have other awesome tools such as Google Trends, Microsoft Bing Ads Inteligence, Wordtracker Fee Basic Keyword Demand, MOZ’ Keyword Analysis Tool.

All these tools are free unless otherwise advised, they not only suggest keywords they also provide estimates of search volumes and predict costs of running paid campaigns for those specific terms.

Learn More about Your Competition

Using the tools I mentioned above you can manipulate them to help you figure out why your website ranks lower than other competitive sites.

Find out what your competitor is doing right for them to rank better for those specific search terms and you can use that knowledge to improve your own website’s ranking.



Keyword research is a fundamental part of your par per click marketing.

PPC is the easiest and fastest way to get traffic to a brand new site.

It has two advantages over waiting for the traffic to come to you organically.

First, PPC ads show up on the search engines immediately, and second PPC ads allows you to test different keywords, as well as headlines, prices and selling approaches.

Understand that Keyword Research is no walk in the park, its hard work.

Narrow down you focus to just a few keywords that interest you and that are worth focusing on and put all your energy into them.

This will ensure results much faster.

So this is what I want you to do:

Step 1: Select a keyword research tool you prefer to use.

Step 2: Make a list of all the specific search terms you would like to rank highly for. For example “Buy Shoes Online In Kenya”

Step 3: Use the Keyword Research Tool to find out how your website ranks on those terms currently.

Step 4: Do a search on Google for those specific search terms to find out who you’re up against (Your Competition).

Step 5: Do everything you can to get them out of the way, the top spot belongs to you anyway geeky
